018. Sketching as Design Thinking and Creativity, with Alma Hoffmann (S2E2)

Alma Hoffmann is an Associate Professor of Graphic Design at the University of South Alabama with the Department of Art and Art History in the College of Arts and Sciences. Alma received her B.A. from the Universidad de Puerto Rico, an M.F.A. from Iowa State University as well as a Diploma in Web Design from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online Division and a Diploma in Photography from the New York Institute of Photography.

Alma was born and raised in Puerto Rico, she joined the Department of Art & Art History at the University of South Alabama in 2013. Her research focuses on how sketching or any other graphic expression such as doodling, are design thinking and problem solving processes. As a bilingual designer, she is also interested in how cultural identity is reflected or defined through visual messages. Alma has taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses. She has writing the book, "Sketching as Design Thinking. As a designer she has worked with a diverse range of clients and has won several awards, and Alma is an editor at Smashing Magazine.
